I really enjoyed my stay. I thought the historic aspect of the hotel was interesting, loved having the exercise facilities available, and with wifi and breakfast included, it was a great value. The room was small, but quaint and comfortable. The ability to walk to great restaurants made it very convenient. I was a bit put off when I first arrived to room though and found the bathroom floor covered in dust and other people's hair. It had clearly not been washed in some time, which made me question the overall cleanliness. But even with that in mind, I would still recommend it to others.
Upon checking in I was upgraded to a mini suite (I did check-in late). The hotel and rooms were clean and how they appear in photographs on this site. Staff were very friendly and accommodating even including a fruit basket. The hotel has a no tipping policy that the staff adhere. The room included a mini fridge (not mini bar), a safe, flat screen TV with cable, and complementally WiFi internet access. The hotel was a short 2 block walk to the metro / subway to visit Hollywood boulevard / University City Walk (on the red line). The taxi from (and to) LAX was around 30 minutes with little traffic. In general, the hotel was in a safe and convenient location for any first time visitor to LA. There are convenience stores and eateries across the street and within walking distance. I plan on staying at this hotel again and I would recommend this hotel to family and friends.
This Hotel which also serves as a Club exceeded our expectations. Located in an the city close to several good restaurants a bonus was the in house car park facility. We would highly recommend the Hotel to LA visitors. We very much enjoyed our stay.
The location of the hotel was great. A few blocks to subway and bus outside the door. The hotel had a great grand old hotel feel. The room was clean and well decorated. The breakfast buffet was wonderful with great options. The use of the athletic club was also a plus. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the downtown LA area.
I stayed at the LA Athletic Club in October 2010 and had a nice stay. The room was updated with nice details and I enjoyed the look and feel of the building overall. The only issue I had was the need to have parking validated each time I left and that I had to pay for parking at all. (There was one overall charge for parking and then they validated each time I left).
I was in town for jury duty and the location of this hotel was perfect! The room was very comfortable and clean, there was even a welcome fruit plate. Which I thought was a great touch! Breakfast was included in the price of the room along with the athletic facilities. Can't beat that! The breakfast buffet included an omelette bar and waffles along with all of the usual breakfast buffet fare. I felt very safe and welcomed. I would definitely stay at this hotel again!
This hotel is an absolute jewel in the heart of the Jewelry District. The lobby is pretty plain and straight forward. When you get off the elevator, you are greeted with a beautiful space leading to your room. The hotel room is stunning. The colors are warm and inviting. The bed is as beautiful to look at as it is comfortable. Upon arrival, I received a fruit and cheese plate. I also received coupons for a free breakfast each morning. This breakfast was so much more than expected. Scrambled eggs, french toast, bacon, sausage, fresh fruit, and fruit juices. This hotel is well worth another visit. When shopping for hotels, I found several that spent all of their money on the lobby and none on the rooms. It is quite the opposite at the Los Angeles Athletic Club.
We were in LA for a show at the convention center, so we wanted a hotel within walking distance. The LA Athletic Club has a classic quality to it. Wood panelling, oil paintings, photographs on the wall. The rooms were small but comfortable and nicely furnished. I think my only complaint was the bathroom - which needed a bit of updating. The room came with a nice buffet breakfast which included lots of fresh fruit and a full cooked breakfast. We never used all the sports facilities, but I hear they are pretty extensive.
The athletic facilities provide walking track, weight machines, lap pool--watched others play basketball, squash. The Wooden Trophy with great basketball names on it is in the lobby. This is where Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford, etc., stayed. Room where we stayed was small but comfortable. Service was friendly and good. Free newspapers including WSJ. Lots of open lounges were available for reading 24/7.
