Milan is a huge city and the main attractions are all within reasonable walking distance of the central train station. Fifteen minutes west of the train station is the Brera neighborhood, centered around the famous art university. One can lounge in the same charming bars that Picasso frequented, tour the spectacular Brera art museum, or dive into the numerous art galleries and antique stores in the area. A five-minute walk to the west of Brera is the imposing Castle Sforzesco and ten minutes to the east you can find the great cathedral known as the Duomo, the La Scala opera house, and the ultra-chic Galleria shopping center. Milan is often regarded as an industrial city, but savvy travelers schedule extra time for exploration and shopping in the Milan.
