Located on the banks of the Missouri River, Pierre is the second smallest and least sophisticated city of any of the US capitals, with none of the plush hotels or fancy restaurants that are typical of most capital cities, with most of the restaurants only serving American cuisine. The main spot of interest would be for those who enjoy bird hunting with several outfitting and guide services available that can guarantee a safe and enjoyable hunt. Visitors might also like to check out the State Capitol Building with its black dome and beautiful life-sized bronze statue of the Fighting Stallions. The South Dakota Discovery Center is a great place for both adults and kids with lots of interactive hands-on nature and science exhibits. And history buffs can visit the Cultural Heritage Center and the Museum of South Dakota State Historical Society.
