Very nice hotel in an ideal location. You can park your car and forget about it (or not bring one). The beach is across the street and the village (Old Del Mar) has everything you need for a long weekend stay. The lobby and rooms are nice but the property overall feels like it could use a freshening - it's a bit dated. Small quibble though because this really is a terrific place to stay. I'll be back for sure.
Georgeous, tranquil spot that makes you feel like you are truly on vacation. I wish the check-in time had been earlier and the check-out time had been later. There's not a whole lot you can take advantage of (pool, spa, gym, tennis, bike rides, bars, etc) between the hours of 4pm and 11am if you are only staying one night.
Staff was very attentive. Food prices a bit high. Nicely appointed rooms
Great location. Nice staff. Very noisy because with multiple events with loud music.
I loved the hotel in most aspects. The bed and pillows were super comfortable. A big plus. I missed a bathtub, but the big shower made up for it. The room is a tad small. We like to go to nice places with our children and the room was very small to be in with children.
Very clean rooms and freshly renovated. Nice and friendly hotel staff. Just opening a nice SPA area.
The front desk staff was great, efficient and friendly. The room was really clean and comfy. A great value for the money.
Great for a short stay in a superb location. Room was large and comy with free internet. Breakfast room was not a restaurant... no service!
The recent renovation was well done. Attractive rooms. There is so much noise through the door...created by the echo of the foyer between two rooms...and our neighbors had young children that were VERY loud early in the morning.
we didn't stay and lost our moneyyou should have someone from the corp. office visit the hotel just awful the carpets were dirty the bed i wouldn"t have my dog sleep in filthy dirty hotel old is no excuse for dirt we went next door to the del mar in what a differance
It was comfy and cozy. and all the amenities we needed were there for us.
Spacious room and bathroom with bathtub. Good location and enough parking. Wonderful staff--very accommodating, especially Barbara. Good breakfast and plenty of food. Great location with easy access to Del Mar, Solano Beach and La Jolla. Would definitely stay again. We were not told that the room we booked had construction in the adjoining patio, however, the workman were fairly quiet early in the morning. There were kids running around the wooden decks in front of our room early one morning. Plumbing is noisy in the bathrooms.
The location and proximity to La Jolla and Del Mar and the ocean and stunning views and access to 5 highway Unlike most other Residents Inn we had to repeatedly ask about coffee and when we asked about the multiple holds on our credit card for "incidentals " we were told it was a system function and they couldn't exactly explain it The pool is so small as to be useless
The staff was very helpful and attentive, the rooms were very cute and unique and comfortable. Great for a romantic get away. All around a great place to vacation and we will be returning. The room we stayed in was right behind a kitchen, so for a couple hours there was kinda banging and stuff.
The decor, the location, the view from the balcony, breakfast from the cafe. The room is a bit small but it is certainly comfortable. The bathroom set up is not ideal.
Everything, ambiance, size, location. Very special Yes, It took longer to get hot water in the faucet & shower than what we would have expected.
The location was wonderful and rooms were clean and inviting. The pool was very cold
Very quiet; an excellent room with a walk out to the pool and bistro through the sliding glass door. So convenient and so old school quaint, that I will have to go back. Not a 4 star, but a very nice place to stay in the middle of Del Mar with a quiet I missed all the little kids running around.... NOT!!! Nothing about this hotel that I did not like.
Good bed, quiet room, excellent location. Ants. Ants IN THE BED, ants on the floor, ants the bed stand, ants in the bathroom. Call an exterminator and I'll give it 8 out of 10.
Location in Del Mar is fantastic No, everything was fine
The location is very peaceful, quiet, and relaxing. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Room was clean, had a refrigerator in the room and a coffee maker which was great. Nice comfortable room. We enjoyed our stay. I would recommend upgrading the bedding. The carpeting also looked worn.
Nice location, good deals at the cafe. The beach was kid friendly . A bit of a walk to the beach, but there's lots to see along the way.

Hotel room appeared to be recently remodeled and was spacious. On the map the hotel appears to be only a couple of blocks from the beach put the closest beach access is at least a half mile away.
Del Mar is a beautiful part of Southern California. We loved the laid back nature of Del Mar Inn, the cute café serving breakfast in the morning and the 'open door policy.' The hotel is in an extremely safe neighborhood and we felt relaxed and happy. We had a good stay, but had a change on the last night. We had to leave early due to family circumstances but the hotel would not refund us, even with 24 hr notice. This felt sour, especially since we were not even contacted by the GM re: the request.
It is a very easy location for exploring San Diego since it is near the 5. There are views of the ocean and a 5 block walk to beaches and downtown Del Mar. The actual neighborhood has a bit of construction. Rooms have been partially updated (bathrooms). bedding was a bit older. Parking lot wasn't well organized.
Love the area. Very clean, nice staff. Pretty hotel and grounds. Loved the fire pit at the café onsite. Pool supposed to close at 9pm but at 10:15 there were still people in the Jacuzzi and being loud. I turned on the 'loud' A/C which drowned them out. A lot of yelling in the halls at night on the last night of our stay. The first night was super quiet.
We love, love, love this motel. It is right on the beach which we love. It is not a fancy place, but a great place. we just wanted to stay and stay and stay but reality sunk in!!!!!!!
its on the beach, what more could you ask for...the views are great, the beach is not crowded, and it is within easy walking distance to dining, shopping, and romantic strolls.
Location, Location, Location. The place was exactly as shown on the web site. The rooms were actually much nicer than I anticipated. Simple but newly updated and very clean. Lots of shared space but we always had enough room and enough privacy if we wanted it. It was a wonderful experience for us. We felt like we got our time at the beach. I loved watching all the families, lots of kids on the beach. Right next to the Lifeguard headquarters which had a huge torch lighting evening surf event while we were there. We will be going back.
It's on the beach Musty, too much noise
This was our first stay at Del Mar Motel On The Beach. Upon checking into our room, we recgonized that the bathroom sink drained very slow. We notified staff & they promptly responded; we were moved to another room. Housekeeping kept our room very clean daily. We liked being right on the beach. We saw 5 dolphins playing & several pelicans diving for fish. We watched the surfers & took walks daily on the 2 miles of beach access. Plenty of places within walking distance to shop & eat; low to high range in cost. The Harvest Ranch Market in Stratford Square has a deli which makes fresh sandwiches, breads, salads, whole rotisserie chicken & other foods daily that are prefect to take for a picnic on the beach or Powerhouse Park. This is not a remark about not liking anything, just a comment. Some may not like the sounds of trains, but it didn't bother us. Several trains run up & down the coast many times through out the day and night time. We know that Del Mar is a place Lucy and Desi Arnez came to live and play & we have to think that this is where the idea for one of their skits came from; the show were they stayed in a motel with Fred & Ethel were the train kept coming all the time. It made us smile.
Location Upon requesting a booking for a future trip with 2 small children and staying in the same room I had this visit, I was disappointed to learn that they could not accommodate putting a roll-away bed in this room because it was on the second level of the hotel!
Close to beach , food , shops patios over looking beach were great.
The location and the amenities were great. They seemed upset that we used the internet rate.
When someone steals money from you and refuses to discuss the incident, it ruins everything. Please see the complaints section as this hotel truly impressed in its refusal to provide any form of customer service. We had an issue with our stay, and we attempted to speak with the front desk staff about it. Our attempts were wholly ignored and dismissed. After several (truly) patient attempts to engage the front desk staff, we requested the opportunity to speak with a manager. Shockingly, the manager never acknowledged our existence. That is to say, the manager never spoke to us or met with us. Our requests were repeatedly met with excuses that the manager was "in and out" or "would get back to us" etc. This occurred not only during the time of our stay, but also when we tried to call the manager after our stay. Amazing. Ultimately, this facility stole $200 from us, and the staff and manager never made themselves available to discuss it (by phone or otherwise). Suffice it to say, I would not trust anyone at this hotel, and I would discourage anyone from staying here. The staff does not care about you and they are not aware they are in a customer service industry.
I liked that it was at the beach and was convenient to all the sites. Yes, the hotel while very inexpensive, did not really focus on customer service. I had booked a king room, but at last minute a friend wanted to go, so I called the hotel and they were so unhelpful, even though I knew I had booked the king, I just wanted them to know that if someone else really wants a king and has a double, we'd be willing to swithc. They were all mouthy and saying, we are sold out. "Listen" to me, I am not complaning and not requesting, just offfering. Then when I got to room, air conditioner was broken and it was a hot day, and at 10pm at night it was 80 in the room. I called front desk and they said, "oh, that room air conditioner was broken ysterday." And you sold me the room, and so I said, well we have no option, so do you have a fan .They brought it up, they were very nice, but didn't make the room cool. I went to desk next morning and said, can you give us some compensation for the uncomfortable night. They didn'T. They said to call you, which I emailed you about on Sunday. Please give us some satisfaction, the ignoring us is worse than the hot room.
This hotel is located on my favorite beach in San Diego. The hotel is located next to the lifeguard station and the Poseidon and Jakes. It is a short walk up the hill to Starbucks and a grocery story. The deck offers multiple grills to cook out, steps from the sandy beach of Del Mar. The beach is sandy and great for skim boarding, surfing, boogie boarding or just a swim.
THE STAFF WERE THE MOST UNPROFESSIONAL I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED. I WAS ASSAULTED BY A STAFF MEMBER BEFORE I EVER CHECKED IN WHICH I FORTUNATELY RECORDED ON MY PHONE. POLICE HAD TO BE CALLED. I LEFT THIS HOTEL AND HAD TO CUT MY VISIT SHORT BECAUSE OF THIS EXPERIENCE. IT IS THE STRANGEST AND MOST DANGEROUS PLACE I HAVE EVER BOOKED TO STAY. I WOULD NOT - LET ME REPEAT - I WOULD NOT STAY AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT AT ANY TIME.
We loved the location as our east coast friends were visiting and rented a home right down the street, a bit closer to the ocean. That being said, we were only in our room a short time each day. We woke up, hung out with them, then came back to sleep. Comfortable beds and I was really happy to find the room had air conditioning! A heat wave in October in Del Mar, unheard of...til now!! Coffee available in the a.m. and a nice shared patio to relax and drink it. Our room was pretty cramped but I appreciated the kingsize bed! Once we put our suitcases on the only chair in the room and the bench against the wall, there was no where to sit. Again, it worked for us since we weren't in the room very much. Also, it's very nice that there are so many sitting areas to choose from outside of the guest rooms. With great ambience as well...artwork, garden fountain, plants.
privately owned unique architecture seating in open patio areas distant view of ocean short walk to Del Mar shops and restaurants no direct beach access due to railraod tracks and bluff 8 to 10 block walk to city/state beach only coffee for breakfast
