If there had been an accident on takeoff, someone flying for the first time wouldn't know what to do or how to get out."

Passengers were becoming very anxious and tense regarding the flight, if it would depart, and the safety of the plane. Improved communication from the Ethiopian Airline staff would have gone a long way to calming the situation and reassuring passengers."

Points négatifs : "The experience from the airport to the plane to Lome was beyond troubling. If ever you are flying internationally from NYC, never fly from Newark New Jersey. Nevertheless, upon boarding the Ethiopian Airline flight to Lome that was supposed to depart at 9:15 pm, the courtesy of the flight attendants was a bit mundane. My mother and I sat on the plane for about an hour after the time of the depart before inquiring why we have no moved and the doors were closed. The flight attendant responded with, "We shall be moving shortly." The air conditioner was barely on. My mother is battling stage 3 Cancer and is an older woman so, I feared for the safety of her health in such a condition. About 30 minutes passed, and we inquired again. This time with a different flight attendant and she said she just did not know what was going on. Other people on the plane began to panic in a sense as well because like my mother and I, they too had a connecting flight to catch. The pilot did not inform the passengers of what was occurring. So, at this point, all passengers on flight ET509 had been sitting on the plane for an hour and a half. By the time we were sitting on the plane for 2 HOURS with the doors closed the pilot finally informed us that they were waiting for some paperwork. He did not apologize or give more information as to why we were sitting on the plane so long, with practically no AC, and weren't informed about when we would be pulling off. About 10 minutes later, the plane began backing up while people were still standing because they were restless with the wait especially when we had a 10-hour flight ahead of us. The pilot then got on the loudspeaker stating that we will be pulling in the air shortly and for the flight attendants to be seated. The pilot did not apologize for the inconvenience or state how long the flight would be or what time we would land in Lome, Togo. Once we were in the air, there were many safety hazards administered by both the crew and pilot. The seat belt safety information was not given, the exit areas in case of emergency were not discussed, what to do in case of an emergency, where certain equipment would be in case of illness or an emergency, and we were still not informed about the cause of the 2 hours and 15-minute delay. My mother and I consistently checked the flight tracker and it did not show the duration of our flight, our location while flying, no flight information was displayed and as hard working paying passengers we should have had all of the information and not have to continuously ask to get a slight answer. Also, I am a vegan and they did not have food for me. But there was a flight attendant who gave me extra fruit which I greatly appreciated. The flight coming back to Newark was decent, going was the major issue. I pray we are accommodated for these great inconveniences. Because to have spent almost $3,000 and receive this type of treatment is both saddening and disturbing to me."

My flight was never announced I had to keep going up to ask over and over. The bathrooms at the airport are unhygienic and the available food is abysmal. On the plane was better except that the only entertainment is over head screens that didn’t work my overnight flight was miserable as the lights were on the whole time and they repeatedly woke me up to eat throughout the flight. I’ll do what I can to avoid the Addis airport from now on."

Platinum on skyteam and no one can help...Kenya airways strikes again. Just glad they didn't last minute change the flight to go to Bujumbura first like they did with my outbound flight."

The plane was of course late leaving Malawi and when I arrived in Nairobi, the plane was getting ready to leave. The customer service line had +20 people in it. I waited my turn then the agent said it was my fault that I missed the flight and the next flight would be $243 USD instead of $90 like the gate agent stated. Then they told me I had to pay the $243 in cash and they didn't accept credit cards. All of the ATMs were broken there. I returned to the agent and they did accept credit cards, they just didn't want to go to the office to swipe it. The entire ordeal took +4 hours. Worst customer service ever."

After rushing from Entebbe flight which was an hour late leaving and arriving, I got to the gate to be informed that this NBO to JNB flight was an hour late in departing. Pilot said it was due to "technical difficulties". My ticket had 4 legs : Nov 28 due to leave JNB at 1:20 finally left at 8:30 due to NBO runway closed from plane belly landing - the pilot was very apologetic - LATE. Dec 5 NBO to Entebbe was an hour late due to "passenger problem and luggage taken off" - LATE. Dec 10 Entebbe to NBO left an hour late due to "plane arriving late" - LATE. Dec 10 NBO to Johannesburg was an hour late due to "technical difficulties" - LATE. All 4 flights were at least an hour late leaving and arriving yet the pilots all said thanks for flying Kenya Airways - the Pride of Africa. This is what Africa should be proud of ?!? and Kenya Airways is proud of ?!? Passengers I talked to all were negative in their comments about Kenya Airways. All said there is ALWAYS something of a problem on a Kenya Airways flight. Lady on NBO to EBB flight next to me as we boarded plane and I said everything has gone smoothly so far, replied - the flight isn't over yet - and then we sat in the plane for an hour while they "removed passengers luggage". A man in NBO departure area as we waited to board JNB late flight said, the procedures and organisation are terrible with problems most of the time, which was why he was using up his reward miles because he didn't want to fly Kenya Airways again. This is the culture of this airline which is allowed to continue with seemingly no regard for the paying customers. If the powers that be such as the FAA, imposed a $100 credit to each passenger for late leaving or arriving, I would have received $400 back on a ticket that cost $750. Maybe the airlines would do something practical to remedy their problems and care for the paying customers rather than just saying "we are sorry for any inconvenience "."

Points positifs : "KQ is one of the few I like among African airliners for its streamlined system and staff's friendliness. This time i took note of a young male CA called Tonny who was very smiley all along, demonstrated care towards all passengers, and seemed to enjoy his work genuinely - which is sadly hard to experience with other global airliners. The staff are well-trained, unlike ET, interacting with passengers on an Raul footing, and it was a pleasant journey this time as well."
Points négatifs : "I am not quite sure if the staff checking passengers in for the flight in EBB were KQ employees, but with that reservation, I was quite disappointed to learn hat KQ does not provide accommodation for 11-hour transit in Nairobi and make its clients stay inside the airport. I almost assumed that the overnight accommodation is given for such a long layover, but nooo! Even when I asked the checkin lady at the alone counter desk at EBB return modestly, "Do you by any chance provide a hotel room for me for the long transit?" She had the guts to say a straight no without a smile or looking into my eyes. I eventually booked a hotel room on my own which cost me nearly $100. I thought that was ridiculous service modality for a major African airliner."

Points négatifs : "Poor organization regarding flight cancellation - I was stuck in the CDG airport all day long to find out more information and get a hotel voucher. And then next morning, there was no clear announcement regarding a rescheduled flight; the flight was delayed AGAIN. This trip caused so much problem in my work."

Then the flight was changed from 10 to midday, but we were only told during boarding and told to go for breakfast at some restaurant without getting directions. On arriving at the restaurant, we were made to sit in a waiting area for over 30 mins then later told to move to another restaurant, without directions. After going through the gate to board for the midday flight and waiting over an hour, we were informed that we were to fly at 4:15pm! The flight was uncomfortable with seats that had absolutely no leg room and non reclining seats"

Points positifs : "The service was great. From the time I boarded I was treated very well. The staff was friendly and it made traveling an ease."

Points négatifs : "I was stranded for 48 hours with no food, water, money or wifi and they kicked me off my fligbt"

Points positifs : "Flight from Entebbe left late, we arrived in Nairobi late but still could have missed our connection but the airline refused to let us board. We were told they were booking a hotel for us and would fly out in the morning, we were left for an hour to wait for the KQ employee to return. We ended up sleeping in the KQ lounge and my bag was left in Nairobi. A day later they called to tell me the bag arrived, when I asked for them to deliver it they were very apprehensive and upset because they were not sure how they would organize this. No voucher was provided for this inconvenience and the customer service was sub part. Will not fly KQ in the future unless the airline makes a gesture to rectify this."

Points négatifs : "No respect for business class customers for boarding; a separate line is not enforced. Very slow boarding generally."

Points positifs : "Always treated with respect, economy seats were comfortable. Attendants always managed to accommodate. In the morning, i asked for a diet coke and she said, I just have juices and water. So I changed my order. Then when she got a chance brought me a can of diet coke with ice. So nice!! I'll definitely fly with Kenya Airways again."
Points négatifs : "IN Bangkok while waiting to board the flight, the gate attendants stopped making announcements and just held up cards. I was trying to follow instructions and not crowd the gate and missed my time to board. It's totally a minor thing but at the end of the trip at 1am it was just frustrating."
