7,0 Bien
Points positifs: Breakfast and dinners were good in the East Wing. In and out skiing plus lockers near the entrance/exit to the slopes, so it was very convenient. Smaller hotel to the West and South Wing which made it more cosy hotel. Ski school in the hotel so it was easy to book lessons and meet instructor.
Points négatifs: My assigned bedroom was a little dated compared to higher floor bedrooms and had a musky smell. Bed was small and low, and not very comfortable.
7,5 Bien
Points positifs: Proximité des pistes
5,0 Correct
Points positifs: It was great location for the snow only.
Points négatifs: The stuff were rude, when we got there we had to work out where everything was. The food was terrible with only the 1 option of where to eat. Untill we meet some other people, who showed us where to go in the next town over, where the prince hotel west didn’t let us know even when we asked if there was anywhere else to go. Also we were on our Honeymoon and we were in single beds when we booked for a room with a double bed.
7,0 Bien
Points positifs: Amazing location and convenience for gondola.
Points négatifs: Hotel rooms were very run down and very dusty in room.
7,0 Bien
Points positifs: Prime location for snow, no free area for toddlers to play
Points négatifs: No play area for toddler to play in the snow
8,0 Excellent
Points positifs: Ski-to-door was great and staff were friendly. Izakaya dinners were really good too.
Points négatifs: Few nearby meal options, especially for breakfast or lunch on a snowy day when you don't want to go far.
7,1 Bien
Points positifs: Location was great
Points négatifs: Meals were expensive and the main restaurant area looks like an old airport, not very authentic. There was no skiing workshop for us to do our own snowboard waxing There was no drying room to dry our gear
4,0 Correct

Points positifs: Such a cool ryokan in a small hot spring town. The coffee and food was amazing and the rooms and facilities were really great too :)
9,0 Excellent
Points positifs: Extremely friendly and helpful staff, lovely old building with Japanese style rooms. Great food and excellent coffee. Was great to get the key to the public onsens and try to visit them all, highly recommend this experience.
Points négatifs: Old heater made the room a little stuffy but a humidifier was provided to help keep moisture in the air
10,0 Excellent
Points positifs: Staying at Koishiya was a lovely experience! The staff were so welcoming and kind, and made our trip to Yamanouchi even better. The building was so cool, it was like living in a museum! The food was also excellent, both dinner and breakfast was a culinary experience. Thank you so much, we look forward to come again, and to stay much longer!

Points positifs: Amazing place to stay, futons were super comfortable and the food was delicious. Beautiful property!
10,0 Excellent
Points positifs: This was my second time staying here and it’s a great place to stay if you want to be near the Snow monkey Onsen or public onsens in the area. They also offer free shuttle service to the monkey park, Yudanaka station, and various onsens nearby. Bed was comfortable. Staff was nice. I had problems with my camera and had to find an alternative for a new one, but didn’t really know my options as I’m from America. Miyuki helped me out and spent about half an hour checking online to find different stores and calling them to ask if they had the camera I needed. Luckily I was able to find a solution with her guidance.
Points négatifs: About 15-20 minute walk from Yudanaka station, but there’s a bus stop near the property and Koishiya also offers free shuttle service to the station in the mornings. The light in the bunk beds weren’t too bright.
9,0 Excellent
8,0 Excellent
Points positifs: The staff were lovely, really helpful. The food in the restaurant was really good.
9,0 Excellent
Points positifs: The hospitality was superb. Free pickup from the Yudanaka train station. Check the pick up timing though. They also can drop you off at Snow Monkey Park bus stop. From here, you need to walk a bit to its entrance/ticket counter area. What we loved the most was the private outdoor onsen session arranged by them. They have 3 sessions: 6pm, 8pm and 10pm. We didn't make any advanced booking but we were fortunate to book a session. They also gave you a wooden key, yukata and clog for you try 9 public onsens for free. Love the atmosphere at Koishiya and Shibu Onsen. Peaceful and relaxing. Wouldn't mind staying at this place again if we ever come back to visit Shibu Onsen.
Points négatifs: No hot water to brush our teeth at the sink near the designated wc for ladies/gents.
10,0 Excellent
Points positifs: Koishiya was one of the first places we stayed in on our 3 week holiday in Japan. We loved the atmosphere - they manage to combine traditional Japanese culture with modern comforts. The staff were friendly, super helpful and accommodating. We were on the third floor in a tatami room where we were given our own yukata and we got to make our own futon beds. The food was so delicious, coffee was amazing - we happily had dinner and breakfast here during our stay (must try their french toast and local apple juice!!) and their buckwheat pillows are the absolute best pillows we've ever slept on, they don't look like much but they are super comfy! They have the lady's bathroom on the 2nd floor, men's on the third and the shower room on the ground floor. Facilities are really clean and well equipped. We were able to book a private onsen to use which is about a 5-10 minute drive away. They drop you off and pick you up. The onsen is a private outdoor one with views of the Shibu onsen - so relaxing! They were also able to drop us off to the entrance of the snow monkey park as well as dropping and pick us up from the train station. You'll also given the master key to access the 9 onsens in the Shibu area, unfortunately we were only there for two days and didn't quite manage to getting around to doing this but it will definitely be on our list for next time. One of our favourite finds and we would definitely stay there again!

Points positifs: Loved having an onsen at the property and the huge array on international adaptors was very helpful
Points négatifs: Price varied from booking.com when we payed at venue.
8,0 Excellent
Points positifs: Onsen
Points négatifs: Heating, dust, the kitchen had no extractor fan and seemed not clean
9,0 Excellent
Points positifs: The shared tatami room was very big and comfortable. It is a real Japanese experience, with non-heated bedroom (about 8-10C), hard futons, and hard "bean-bag" pillows (foreigners, be aware). Very comfortable overall. The onsen and rotenburo are very pleasant (mild temperatures). The hostel is 2.5 walk uphill from Yudanaka station, right in the centre of Shibu onsen town, where you can go to the tour of the 9 public onsen (very typical Japanese style).
8,0 Excellent
8,8 Excellent
Points positifs: Great for the price. Lovely location in such a cute town as well.
Points négatifs: Not the cleanest facilities... no central heating. Only space heaters. But again, for the price, totally fine.
8,0 Excellent
7,0 Bien
Points positifs: onsen
Points négatifs: lack of staff, kitchen is very small and dirty
8,0 Excellent
9,0 Excellent
Points positifs: Amazing location, very hot bath including rotemburo, cute room and fancy lobby. Nice hosts. I will recommend it.
1,0 Mauvais
Points positifs: Rien

Points positifs: My wife and I stayed for one night/one day. The Hotel was beautiful! Absolutely amazing experience and well worth the price. The staff, the owner were very accommodating and extremely friendly. We purchased a private room with its own onsen on the balcony. The food was amazing as it comes served with a 6+ course meal for Dinner AND Breakfast! Can't recommend this place enough!
Points négatifs: Everything was perfect! Nothing went wrong.

Points positifs: We arrived at the train station & even though we hadn’t expected a lift there was someone from the hotel waiting to do pick ups. That was very welcome. The place is immaculate & the view STUNNING The rooftop bar is an experience not to be missed. Igloos heated from within. Fabulous. Onsen is very hot & not as frightening as you imagine it will be. Do it! Private dining oh my we were treated like royalty. Very expensive but was exquisite & a once in a lifetime
Points négatifs: To be honest I didn’t enjoy the traditional Japanese room. We arrived after over a 3hr journey & I just wanted to lie down but the beds aren’t made up until you go out for dinner
10,0 Excellent
10,0 Excellent
Points positifs: My family and I only stayed for one night but we wished that we could have stayed for more. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible. I even received a birthday gift from them as it was my birthday month. Everything was great - the room was comfortable, the food was delicious and the onsen was clean. I will definitely be recommending Aburaya Tousen to my friends. I would definitely stay there again if I am ever in the area.
Points négatifs: I loved everything about my stay there. No complaints whatsoever. My only criticism is that they did not respond to online messages in a timely manner.
9,6 Excellent
Lits/matelas futon moyennement confortable.

Points positifs: This is a hotel we had visited back in 2014. It is still the same cozy place, however this time we have got a room without a privet toilet. The onsens were splendid and we got some decent sleep at last. It is close to the train station and a Lawson conbini. There are 3 onsens of which one is more private and another one is in the open. The staff were super nice and offered to drive us to the snow monkey park. Lots of restaurants nearby.
Points négatifs: Just the fact we wanted a toilet inside our room. Nothing else really.
9,0 Excellent
Points positifs: Exceptional service! The staff were so friendly and welcoming. The hotel owner even offered to drive us to see the snow monkey mountain park before we left in the morning which helped a lot! Would definitely come back :)
Points négatifs: Nothing!
8,3 Excellent

Points positifs: This hotel was enjoyable for our stay. We booked it purely for the proximity to the bus/train station and were happy with the facilities. The Japanese-style room was clean and warm (stayed during winter). The onsen was also nice and we found it a pleasant and quiet stay. Though we didn't use them, the hotel also had provisions to arrange trips to visit the Snow Monkeys which is a major attraction of the area.
Points négatifs: The bathroom was average compared to other hotels we used in Japan, and there was a kitchenette but there was a sign telling us not to use the stove top? We also noticed that there was a space where a washing machine would have been attached but this was absent, not sure why.
8,0 Excellent
Points positifs: This is quite a large hotel located a short walk from Yudanaka station. Buses to ski resorts and snow monkey park depart from here. Room was large with great view equipped with fridge, kettle and traditionally matted sleeping platform.
Points négatifs: Initially assigned room used previously by smokers, staff reassigned quickly.
9,0 Excellent
Points positifs: I loved breakfast it was very traditional tasted like it was home-cooked. They served the best-tasting fish in a bento set up. It was also a complete meal with rice, soup, egg, and dessert which could give you more energy to hiking up the mountains.
Points négatifs: The hotel is pretty old but it looks ancestral and very traditional. Although it was old, the room was still clean as well as the facilities of the hotel. An update would be a lot of work but would really make the place a perfect hotel for me.

9,0 Excellent
Points positifs: We stayed for 5 nights in a Japanese-style room with a private bathroom. The room was big, with traditional tatami floors and comfy futon beds. The price for the room is reasonable. The view of the mountains from the room is breathtaking. The hotel's location is great - 2 minutes walk from Yudanaka station. We arrived very late on the first day (it was almost midnight). The room was already prepped for the night upon our arrival. The Wi-Fi connection at the hotel is great - it's very fast. So, if you plan to post a lot of pictures or videos during your stay, or to do some online work - this might be the right place for you. I definitely would recommend the breakfast at the hotel. The food served during the breakfast service was very tasty. It's Japanese-style. Cooked fresh by a lovely lady. After noticing that we drank a lot of coffee she made a coffee jelly dessert and served it the next morning - especially for us! It was delicious. A very nice touch. The breakfast varied from day-to-day. We didn't try dinner at the hotel as there was a nice restaurant on the ground floor. The restaurant is in the same building but it's not run by the hotel. But by a lovely family trio (father, mother and daughter). The food served there was one of the best dining experiences I had during my many travels to Japan. If you stay at this hotel you definitely should try the food served at the restaurant downstairs. There is a free shuttle bus to Ryuo ski park leaving from the nearby Yudanaka station - very convenient. The hotel has spacious onsen facilities with various pools that are ranging in temperature of the water - great for the sore muscles after the long day on the slopes. There is also a sauna. The onsen is open to the locals and visitors from other hotels. In theory, the customers with tattoos are not allowed to use the onsen, but no one said anything to my friend with a tattoo, and he was also able to enjoy the facilities there.
Points négatifs: There have been some minor cleanliness issues in our room. Dirty stains on the carpeted area in the room. And a little dust on the shelves in the wardrobe. Not a big deal. The only thing we did not like about the stay at this hotel was that the staff asked for an extra "deposit" in cash during the check-in process... a deposit that we never got back. During check out the member of staff explained that this "deposit" is some sort of tax (even though we pre-paid for the stay a few weeks in the advance). The deposit wasn't too big, so we decided not to argue over this small amount. Even after factoring the "deposit" to the price paid for the room - the total amount paid was small.

Points positifs: The stay was absolutely perfect! The room was truly comfortable, a Japanese traditional type with Yakuta and Futon provided with a really nice view. The onsen at the roof is absolutely a highlight, very comfortable and with nice ambience, especially the one outside with a great view! I cannot praise enough the staff which was very caring and attentive and made their best to make our stay fantastic, picking us up from Yudanaka station, taking us to the Snow Monkey Park and delivering our luggage to the train station the next day. They also did an amazing job preparing the amazing delicacies for both dinner and breakfast. The ryokan also allows you to have a key to visit all the amazing onsens in the area, but to be honest, the private one at the spot is the best! Highly recommended stay!!!
Points négatifs: NONE! Everything was perfect!

Points positifs: Lovely ryokan with very friendly and accommodating staff. The food was excellent. The outside onsen was a bonus.
Points négatifs: It's a little bit dated. Needs a little refurbishment.

Points positifs: Lovely place with their own hotspring pool on the top floor Walking distance to all public baths The public baths are small and not luxurious an the water sometimes sulfuric but all very genuine
Points négatifs: I loved it but for those that want more luxurious baths should go to Kinosaki instead

Points positifs: Friendly and helpful staff. The room was very quiet and confortable. They offer shuttle service from Yudanaka station to the hotel. They even made us a favor to send our luggage to the other hotel in the area that we would spend the next night. Breakfast and dinner were amazing! High quality food and beautifully presented.

Points positifs: Great location to see the snow monkeys. Loved the traditional atmosphere and unique food. Very nice onsen
Points négatifs: Indoor pool looked dated and we preferred the use of the onsen over it Bathroom was very damp due to the private onsen. As a result we didn’t use opting for the public onsen instead.

Points positifs: Everything was quite wonderful, including our personal attendant Victor. Very worth the stay. Will definitely come again.

Points positifs: Lovely traditional Japanese ryokan - a very authentic experience. Very friendly and helpful staff. The free shuttle to and from the station and the monkey park was excellent. The food was fantastic especially the shabu shabu which we’d never tried before. We did find sleeping on the futons a little bit uncomfortable but we wanted to experience a traditional ryokan it so it was worth it!

Points positifs: Good communication and always happy to help. Good pick up and drop off service from the train station. Very friendly all the time!
Points négatifs: Traditional Japanese style bed on the floor took a bit of getting used to.
8,0 Excellent
Points positifs: - traditional dinner was a great experience - close to Hakuba - friendly staff - AMAZING private onsen - large room - clean - close to monkey park
Points négatifs: Value for money - paid $750 AUD for one night. You still sleep on the floor, not luxury accommodation by a long shot.
10,0 Excellent
Points positifs: The handling of our arrival was absolutely masterful. The attention to detail was insane, everything was prepared for us in advance, there was even a little flag of Canada (where we are from) next to a flag of Japan on our kotatsu. Every part of the experience was planned out and we felt so pampered even during parts that are expected to be boring like receiving explanations on how the keys and onsens work! The dinner and breakfast were also absolutely amazing, with exceptional ingredients and preparation. Everything was just so beyond our expectations (and we kind of had very high expectations already given the price). I'd be happy honestly just spending every vacation for the rest of my life here.
Points négatifs: The bed sheet covers were a little hard, especially compared to how soft the kotatsu sheets were but the futon was so thick we didn't mind it at all.
10,0 Excellent
Points positifs: Loved the private, in-room Onsen!
Points négatifs: I wish we could have stayed longer!
10,0 Excellent
Points positifs: Everything, Great atmosphere, we done all the town Onsens which you get a little towel to stamp at every one so that makes a great souvenir as well as our own private Onsen which meant we didn't get to use the lovely in house Onsens (they have 5). Food is excellent and wonderful staff. Perfect.
Points négatifs: Leaving, wish we cold have stayed longer. Will be back next year for soaking after Skiing.

Points positifs: I loved that the Onsen called to check our train arrival in Yudanaka and advised they would pick us up. Bravo !!

Points positifs: Amazing traditional Japanese style inn with keiseki meals for breakfast and dinner. Outstanding hospitality. Two gender specific onsens included and a private to book at a cost on top. Private onsen is a small room and should book in advance as its regularly booked out. The property has a shuttle to the snow monkey entrance but we recommend making your own way to get there when the park opens for best views and less crowds
Points négatifs: Included onsens unable to be used between 9am and 3pm which was annoying as we kept our schedule mostly free to utilise this throughout the day. Would be really nice if they gave you a menu after each meal however they do explain most of what you are getting
10,0 Excellent
Points positifs: We did not participate in the breakfast or dinner but onsens were exceptional.
10,0 Excellent
Points positifs: The private onsen bath was truly amazing. Hotel was exceptional and well located in Shibu Onsen. Public onsen was also lovely, and private dining for breakfast was a nice experience.
9,6 Excellent
Points positifs: Staff were wonderful! Dinner and breakfast were delicious - plenty of food too. There was a free shuttle to the Snow Monkey Park which was great, and luggage delivery to a storage location near the station so we could go to the train after the park. Everything went very smoothly. My partner has a tattoo so he couldn’t used the public bath, so we booked the private bath, which was really nice, just for an extra charge. Overall it was a great experience.
Points négatifs: Nothing to really complain about. Everyone was lovely and it was a unique ryokan experience compared to our other hotels in bigger cities.
9,6 Excellent
Points positifs: Everything was beautifully executed- the room, the service from staff which was just wonderful, the onsens were lovely... couldn’t fault it!
Points négatifs: The only thing to be aware of is that if you wanted to complete the Shibu Onsen ‘trail’ of the public onsens, this hotel isn’t eligible to allow you a key, as it isn’t technically part of of Shibu onsen (although if you’re not intending to do that, the location is really close to Shibu)
10,0 Excellent
Points positifs: Very clean, friendly stuff
7,9 Bien
10,0 Excellent
Points positifs: The staff were all so lovely and helpful with everything! The pick up service from Yudanaka Station when we arrived was great, and we got to drop our luggage for safekeeping in a cafe next to the station on the day we left while the hotel took us to the snow monkey park. The location was great - close to the snow monkey park, bus stop to Shiga Kogen skiing, walkable to good restaurants and Onsens too! We had breakfast one morning and it was so special served in your own little room and there was so much food! The Onsen in the hotel was fab and you can book it privately for 50 mins for only 2200 yen. You can also use the separate male/female Onsens in the hotel for free too! Thank you so much for the best experience of a traditional Japanese stay! We loved it!
8,0 Excellent
Points positifs: The facility was excellent and the atmosphere was great and quite. Also, we liked that they will pick you up from Yudanaka Station and drop you off at the end for free. They provide you a ride to monkey park for free but to return you need to take the bus. They will provide you with boots when you go to the monkey park so yours don't get dirty ( don't know if you have to pay or not) also there is a renting place at the bottom of the Mountain if you want to change your boots there. Last but not least they will try their most to help you in anything which was nice of them.
Points négatifs: We are Muslims and we had to tell them to check the meal ever Time. Also, their English was just to get you by don't expect them to carry a full conversation other than instructions.

Points positifs: The owner was really nice and accommodating. The property is traditional style but has everything you need except a lift. The onsen was lovely and hot, got my money’s worth.
Points négatifs: The only downside was no lift but I’m not too bothered by that being a solo traveler.
8,3 Excellent
10,0 Excellent
Points positifs: Friendly and helpful. Mr and Mrs Yumoto were very accommodating. Mr Yumoto drove us too and from the Monkey Park and helped organise us to catch the bus to Nozawa Onsen instead of having to get back on the train. Loved our stay! Such a traditional ryokan with the perfect facilities. Highly recommend private open air Onsen too.

Points positifs: Nice traditional ryokan. Owner was very helpful, driving me to and from the monkey park - he even picked me up from there after I spent an additional night at another hotel in the snow monkey park, which was very good of him. They also offer to lend you boots to hike through the snow to the monkey park - I had suitable boots so didn't need this, but this would have been good otherwise.

Points positifs: Shimaya is an excellent place to stay! The owners are lovely and very helpful. They guided us to best train and bus routes, drove us to the snow monkeys, and provided boots for our cold feet. I highly recommend staying here. The player piano in the breakfast area is also an awesome touch.
Points négatifs: Nothing. I loved this place.

9,0 Excellent
Points positifs: While our room was simple and the bathroom was cold at night, it was quite large, and the proprietors, a married couple, could not have been more accommodating. Breakfast was fresh, hot and delicious, different every day and delivered to our room. The couple drove us to the train station several times and would have driven us to the Snow Monkey Park had we not wished to hike. This was also the only place in Japan we stayed that had a private Onsen so we could soak together! Their ryokan was convenient to many restaurants and to the community onsens. They provided yukadas and heavy haoris as well as outside slippers so we could traipse through the streets to the onsens in the cold. If we wished to stay in, their men’s and women’s onsens were perfect temperature & well equipped with shampoo, conditioner and bath soap, as well as brushes and a hair dryer. They showered us with gifts on our departure. Such a lovely stay!
Points négatifs: The separate room for the toilet was quite cold at night. It was on an outside wall with window so could not be helped. We had a space heater in our bedroom that kept it toasty warm. Perhaps we should have moved it at night, we would turn it off as there were plenty of quilts and we like to sleep in the cold.
10,0 Excellent
Points positifs: Nice hosts. Great Onsen experience. Helped with local travel.
10,0 Excellent
Points positifs: The owners of Daymaruya Ryokan were very friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had a great stay. They came to pick us up from the nearby station, took us to Jigokudani Monkey Park, and drove us back to the station at the end of our stay, We had both Japanese and continental breakfast and both were delicious. The hot spring baths at the pension are great. In addition to the indoor male and female baths, there is an outside private bath, which was highly enjoyable. The pension in located in the centre of Yamanouchi, making it an ideal place to stay to enjoy the town and visit nearby attractions.

Points positifs: Both owners are incredibly friendly and helpful. They picked us up and dropped us off at the station and drove us to the monkey park. The location is great too, it's very close to the public onsens, all if which you have free access to as a guest at the ryokan.
Points négatifs: Nothing.
9,0 Excellent

Points positifs: Fantastic place! Free transfers to anywhere nearby, such as train station. Excellent exploration to Snow Monkey Park!
10,0 Excellent
Points positifs: Nice simple traditional Ryokan with great separate onsen for ladies, men and a private one, all onsite. Excellent location right on the famous onsen street close to all the public onsen and plenty of bars, Izakaya and restaurants very close. Friendly family atmosphere, the owner picked us up from the station and took as back on departure, and also drove us to the Snow Monkey park and collected us from there too. Its not a fancy upmarket place but neither is the price! You will enjoy your stay for sure.

8,8 Excellent
Points positifs: Location is great, ski in ski out! Yes, furnishings in rooms a bit dated but considering location high in mountains can be expected, breakfast is great, French restaurant beautiful food but expensive, public bath great, staff helpful, can ski easily between resorts, shuttle bus available too. Fireplace in communal area lovely.
Points négatifs: Drying facilities weren’t great, you are provided locker but we took gear to our room to dry. Meal options are pricey, ‘sports bar’ easy walking distance for cheaper dining option but uncomfortable to walk to if snowing and windy! If you can afford it consider breakfast and dinner package.
10,0 Excellent
Points positifs: The skiing was, as always, excellent, and a glass of wine in front of the open fireplace afterward was delightful.
Points négatifs: I would appreciate having some quality sparkling water (Gerolsteiner, San Pelligrino, etc) in at least one of the vending machines.
7,5 Bien
9,6 Excellent
Points positifs: Located right up in the mountains, with a ski field right on the front door. Super convenient and great skiing. A good Onsen as well as a great buffet breakfast. Would highly recommend the full board option as a stay here without it would be quite poor value. There are not really any convenient food options outside the hotel for breakfast or dinner. Without the full board the restaurants are quite highly priced, although the food is nice. Also has a nice fireplace in the bar, but drinks are a tad expensive.
Points négatifs: If the weather closes in the Okushiga resort may close cancelling the convenience of the hotel to the ski field. It would then be a bus shuttle to the slopes further down that are not as affected by bad weather. Didn’t happen to me, but apparently can happen.
9,0 Excellent
Points positifs: 2nd time staying here. The location is great, next to the ski lifts. It has amazing breakfast, a really clean onsen and is very comfortable for anyone on a ski holiday.
Points négatifs: Nothing. It was a good stay.

4,2 Correct
Points positifs: Walkable to the train station
Points négatifs: I stayed in the annex. This really had nothing to do with any concept of a ryokan (no mats, no sleeping on floor, no sliding paper doors, nothing). The carpets were very dirty. Two small twin beds in the room had cheap mattresses. There was no decor, just old cheap walls from a cheap building built in the 70s. Grout between tiles in bathroom was black. Faucet and shower also dated to 70s. Just a bad place.
9,6 Excellent
Points positifs: We got a private onsen and it was very nice
4,6 Correct
Points positifs: Friendly service, English-speaking staff
Points négatifs: Ambiance is not at all appealing, as it resembles a run-down hospital. Cleanliness can be improved (hair was found in bathroom and furniture was covered with a thin layer of dust). Not at all worth the price.
9,0 Excellent
Points positifs: The room was spacious. The manager was very polite and exceptionally helpful. She took us on her car to the Snow Monkey park and suggested really good dining places in the area as well as the best outdoor baths they had in that town.
Points négatifs: The room was clean, but the carpet was full of permanent stains which made it look dirty. The furniture was very old which added to the feeling of uncleanliness, but I must say these were quite minor issues especially considering all of the good sides of that place.
9,6 Excellent
Points positifs: Shino, the owner is an incredible host. Really cares that you have a nice stay.

Points positifs: Amazing Onsen. Staff waited for me as I was a late arrival. 5 minutes walk to train and bus station. Super quiet.
Points négatifs: Beds were quite hard.

Points positifs: The owners are absolutely lovely and willing to help with anything, including loaning boots for the muddy walk to the snow monkeys. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable, and soaking in the onsen in the snow was a life experience.
10,0 Excellent
Points positifs: The staff at Yudanaka Yumoto are exceptional. They picked us up at the train station, gave us a lift to the snow monkey park and took us back to the station when we were leaving too. We loved the traditional feel of the ryokan, the onsen was incredible, as was the breakfast. We only stayed 2 nights and were very sad to leave!
Points négatifs: Nothing, we loved everything about our stay here.
8,0 Excellent
Points positifs: The breakfast was amazing. Definitely would include that in our future stays. Didn't get a chance to have the dinner, but I'm sure that would have been even more amazing. The hotel is very unique and close to the train station. Hosts were very nice and drove us to the Snow Monkey and to the train station.
Points négatifs: Due to the winter temperature it was a little cold. Wish there was a heater in the bathroom.
9,2 Excellent
Points positifs: A serene stay in a historic but well maintained Japanese ryokan, a home stay style. The room is compartmental and very spacious. The Japanese garden view from the room is magnificent, and warm even in mid-winter. The hospitality of the only two staff we met is very impressive, beyond expectation but simplicity. The breakfast was simple, ordinary but adequate and graciously presented. The indoor and outdoor bath room are cosy and nice.
Points négatifs: There are no dinner service in the ryokan but there are walkable restaurant nearby.
9,6 Excellent
8,0 Excellent
Points positifs: The staff were lovely and took me to & from the train as well as monkey park. There is an onsen on site which was nice to use and the breakfast was an amazing spread.
Points négatifs: Rooms felt a little tired and needed a few small improvements
10,0 Excellent
9,0 Excellent
Points positifs: Great breakfast and kind owners made this a special trip and experience-- the building is a bit dated (cosmetically) but all functions. Highly recommended.
Points négatifs: n/a
10,0 Excellent
Points positifs: The owners were extremely welcoming and lovely. The room was spacious and clean with a beautiful view overlooking the garden and koi pond. The owners gave us a lift to the snow monkey park entrance and even offered us to borrow snow boots at no charge for the day saving us 800 yen pp to hire them at the gate. The small cosy village of Yudanaka was beautiful. We had breakfast included with our stay and it was an incredible meal of 8 or so Japanese dishes home cooked by the owners at served in a private dining room. The open air Onsen (outdoor) was amazing and I was fortunate enough to have snow falling while in the bath! Can't rate this place high enough!!
8,0 Excellent
Points positifs: There are fancier, newer ryokan around but if you go to Yamoto with an open mind and take the heartfelt hospitality of this sweet family for what it is, you too will have an enjoyable stay. In many simple ways this was the highlight of my stay in Japan! I had a wonderful time with my family here, the onsen provided some special time for us with each of the kids, my daughter was so excited she sprang up the next morning so we could have some further ‘girl time’ in the second onsen (so gorgeous being outside in the early winter morning!) the kaiseki dinner in our yukata was so enjoyable and really delicious, each dish carefully presented by our gracious hostess who made a children’s version for our youngest and a special meal for my husband who doesn’t eat seafood. Cooking our own wagyu was fun! We had room 102 which included futon and two single beds, in our 15 days the futon was my most comfortable bed! The linens were spotlessly clean with plentiful quilts and pillows. We loved the yukata (my husband was disappointed not to find one as good quality in the shops as he really liked it as a robe). We were kindly collected from and returned to the station. Whilst we had got an early train from Tokyo the connection was still an hour and a half wait so we arrived rather later than we expected and went straight to the monkey park, this was very kind and also meant we had a longer time enjoying the onsen experience afterwards. I noticed there were many boots in the lobby guests could avail for the walk up to the Snow Monkeys. Breakfast was as equally plentiful as dinner and set us up well for a long day.
Points négatifs: The ryokan is old and in need of updates but please look through this and let yourself enjoy the experience. We stayed mid February so I did put one of the floor pillows against a draft but with three heaters and the glow from the hot spring onsen we were super toasty.

Points positifs: Very kind and considerate staff, the service was fantastic! we arrived with a car and since we're inexperienced with driving in snowy weather, the staff were concerned about our drive to the monkey park and drove us there and back with a shuttle. They also provided us with suitable boots and even cleared the snow off our before our trip back! The location was great, right next to the main street, and the breakfast was delicious:)

Points positifs: Great location. Staff were amazing, very attentive. Rooms were excellent. Food was excellent as well.
Points négatifs: Nothing really. As an Aussie we found the futons a little hard compared to what we are used to but that’s didn’t diminish our stay.

Points positifs: Delicious, authentic japanese food. Restaurant is great. Hotel staff is very attentive. Very very good.

Points positifs: It was very traditional in its styling but also boasted modern amenities. The onsen on-site was great but also close to the public onsens. We were given a shuttle to the snow monkeys and also to the station when we left. The traditional garments were a nice touch.
Points négatifs: We didn’t get a response when we messaged twice through the booking assistant about the best way to get to the hotel from Hakuba. There is no hotel or food available at the hotel.
10,0 Excellent
Points positifs: Staff were fantastic, dinner, breakfast, help with buses and even dropped us off at the monkey park.
Points négatifs: Nothing to report

Points positifs: Upon checking in to this hotel we were escorted to our traditional Japanese room and given a demonstration of how to wear our Onsen robing. The 9 public onsens of Shibu Onsen were practically on our doorstep! The Japanese matting that was our beds for the night were a bit hard but added to the overall experience. The Japanese dinner and breakfast that came as part of our accommodation were amazing and the staff were friendly and helpful. I would recommend anyone to stay at this hotel!

Points positifs: This was my first Ryokan experience, and I loved it. The reception was warm, friendly, and attentive. They also provided a shuttle to the monkey park the next morning. It is located on a walkable street with some shops, restaurants and onsens which you will have access to as a guest of the Ryokan. The onsite open air onsen was really nice.
Points négatifs: You can walk to the local restaurants and shops in the yukata they provide. They also provide wooden shoes that make noise when walking on the street. I could hear this from my room. It didn’t go too late into the night, but something to be aware of. You might also find that it adds authenticity to the experience!
8,0 Excellent
Points positifs: i like this Shibu Onsen Village
Points négatifs: 9 free outdoor onsens on the street
