We loved the woodsy lodge style of the hotel. From our first steps on the front porch, everything had a very comfortable and homey feel. Loved that the hotel had a pool for the kids and a lounge for the adults. The rooms were a little outdated, but not bad. They were much bigger than I'd expected. The breakfast included with the room was ok. It's what you'd expect of a free breakfast (pancakes, sausage, scramble eggs, toast, plus oatmeal and cereals). Afterwards we walked the grounds and discovered the most amazing gardens and paths to explore. We wound stay here again. The rooms were a little outdated, but not bad. Overall, we were pleased.
Pool, breakfast, location Didn't have hot water one day, didn't have room cleaned one day.
Roomn, gardens, dining Staff in lobby were not that helpful and not courteous. Dining staff were excellent. You need to have a gift shop where incidentals can be purchased along with souvenirs.
grounds and garden were beautiful; enjoyed bungalow with patio. proximity to ocean
The staff couldn't have been kinder to the bride & groom. The guests were directed by staff and always helpful. Very relaxing environment, comfortable walking paths, and the breakfast was always plentiful and hot. Bed was super comfortable, plenty of towels and the bathroom was spacious for the shower, but not tub in the "standard" room. As a local who was here for a friends wedding, I'm very proud to highly recommend this hotel if you're in the area. Air conditioning didn't work, but that's not unusual for a hotel near the beach. The open window cooled the room during the night. Wish I had a bathtub, but it wasn't a major priority for me since I was there for only one night and focused on the wedding festivities.
Cabin-like rooms/setting Spaciousness of property Light show at holiday time Breakfasts Key negative: WIFI generally not there, both in the room and even in the lobby Mattress was generally good - a little lumpy
Beautifil rooms and gardens, very clean and comfortable, great amenities, perfect for families
Excellent mattress & pillows. Nice decor. Windows on both side let lovely breeze through the room. Good coffee and arm oatmeal for breakfast. Nice outdoor seating & picnic tables with grills. Can't beat the convenience of the board walk entry directly across the street. Well landscaped with nice variety of flowers. Noisy upstairs neighbors and no AC or fan to drown out noises or the barking dog that seemed to be alone at midnight. Breakfast could be improved with fresh fruit and warm eggs or waffle.
Not worth the price asked for the room. You made it look so plush in your computer website, I've traveled a lot in my lifetime and the place was a cheap place trying hard to look good but doesn't quite cut it!! The price per night should have been about $125-135 and not in the $200 range. I have stayed some years back in the cottages next door and they were decorated with opulence reflecting the price you pay.
Perfect half way point between San Fransisco and LA along the PCH. I'd stay here again, beautiful view of the rocky coast and there are harbor seals that rest on the shore right in front of the hotel. About 15 minutes north their is also a viewing area for elephant seals. The room was spacious, and the bed was super comfy. There is a breakfast but we chose to go across the highway (2 minute drive) to the cute little town to have dinner and breakfast. The shower was a tad small and the hot tub was not very hot but those were minor negatives in overall stay.
It's real close to the beach and boardwalk, (right across the street!), and a short drive to downtown and some great places to eat and drink.
Friendly curtetious staff, cleanliness, location... No real dislikes
The street is full of small hotels. Close to the moonstone beach. Breakfast is included and will be delivered to your room. Ocean view room is a must try. room is clean. Free wifi. nice staff.
It was steps from the beach. For the price, we were underwhelmed. The shower had bad water pressure, the included breakfast came to us still frozen, the room had a buzzing sound, and we expected more for the price of the room.
I was OK with the rate I was paying until I was checking in. The desk clerk was on the phone and was offering this person a "walk-in rate" $50 less than I had paid. Was a little upset.
Spa + firepit at sunset, fireplace, and free warm breakfast. It was close to the beach and resturants. Nothing
Room was awesome. Staff was wonderful. Can't think of any negative pertaining to our visit to the Fog catcher Inn. Although I did like the Hot Tub and Fire Pit.
Recuperating from a previous surgery, I was looking for some r & r and found it. Old facility, dirty, lack of space ; I wanted to leave. Excellent locale .
It was near everything, and the singer Saturday night was great We had way too many ants in our room. If you put food down for one minute there would be a thousand ants, they were all over the room .
Staff was very friendly. The ambiance was fabulous. Very comfortable. The breakfast buffet was only so so for the price we paid for the room. I thought it could have been better given all the fresh fruits available in California. The danishes were a little stale. Not much of a variety.
Nice property with good rooms. Not on the beach and no water views is a downside. Breakfast is included, but its a pretty meager spread with not much effort put behind the food. Staff was very helpful.
The location and facilities are very nice. I particularly enjoyed their hot tub. We were told that there was free afternoon sangria and that the wine bar served wine and bar snacks until 11:30 PM. Neither statement is exactly true. There is free sangria but only until the very limited amount they make runs out – and they refuse to make more even though they have the ingredients available – and the bar only serves snacks until the staff gets tired of making them – which was very much earlier in the evening than is advertized.
The staff was friendly and new their hotel well. The location was conveniently close to town. The hotel is not exactly on Moonstone beach which was a disappointment. Also noise from the hallway permeated into the far too easily.
It was very quit, clean and comfortable.
The location of this hotel was absolutely fabulous, as was the front desk staff. One night here was truly not enough. This hotel is a gem and the restaurant next door was wonderful, too.
Definitely should be more than 2 stars. Maybe the rating was done before their recent renovation? Loved the wine reception, staff and location were excellent and we enjoyed the hot tub. Also loved having breakfast delivered to the room. No air conditioner but I'm sure it's not often needed in this part of CA. However, we could have used it in the late afternoon.

Staff were friendly on the phone. Good place to stop for our drive from Solvang to Monterey. Heater doesn't work. Very noisy - I can hear other rooms showering and walking. The room and bathroom were not as clean as I hoped. Upgrading to a balcony room was quite useless - no view, and it seems that the room is exactly same as the standard one, with primary difference being that the room was upstairs. Realistically, this room is worth less than $80, the cost reflects the location and perhaps the scarcity of nicer places to stay.
The Motel is a little older (which means the rooms are larger than newer rooms) and very nicely remodeled. I see from reading previous suggestions they take them to heart, as our room was very comfortable and clean. The staff is knowledgeable and very helpful. The Pastries on the weekend are incredible. Shops and restaurants are literally a 5 minute walk from the Motel. Coffee was OK, but didn't match the Pastries at all. A small refrigerator would have been nice. Especially, for longer stays.
The room itself was clean and comfortable. The balcony was a nice feature and there was room to sit and relax before turning in for the evening. The sinks didn't drain and there was a big wad of hair in the shower drain. We were happy we only stayed here one night because we didn't want to shower here and we didn't.
The room was very clean and comfortable, and the staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Just a short walk to shopping and restaurants. We had a lovely stay!
Nothing.... will never consider staying here again. We reaerved a room with 2 queen size beds and a balcony and they gave us a room with 1 pull out bed. The sofa bed was so uncomfortable that even my 4yr old was complaining about his back hurting. I would like for the owner and or manager to try and slee on the sofa bed and beds.... Of course hearst castle was great! Cambria was also great. What my wife and i, also my friends did not like were the beds They were to hard, not comfortable, everything else was fine.
I liked the location of the inn. Though I would have liked to be closer to the beach, it was surrounded by cute cafes and shops. I did not like the fact that they asked for credit card information online and charged us at the hotel still with a one hundred dollar deposit on top of it all.
The only thingh I liked is the town is located in. Place is dated, the water in the shower comes out really hot while you shower then all of a sudden the water comes out freezing cold, every time some one in the next room uses the water or flushes the toilet while you shower this happens..
This place is very tough to rate. Room was very large and cozy. The young lady at the desk was very friendly and informative. She offered suggestions of places to go and places to eat. That being said there are a couple of negatives. The TV was older than most of my children. The sitting room/living room area was more updated. The bathroom was very outdated. Tub was way too tall for easy in and out. Probably not the best for older people. If asked would I return I would say yes. Clean room, friendly staff and comfortable bed.
The Burton Inn was a cool little place. Close to all the shops, restaurants, and bars. My wife and I had a great time exploring Cambria and wine tasting at all the locations. Had a great bed and breakfast feel and was real treat to try something new.
Everything was OK - nothing stands out as being very good. Online it looks like it will be cottages. However, it is much more like a Motel 6. The rooms are not cottages, but long hallways with rooms on either side. Very few rooms have a water room. The breakfast was poor.
We loved it here. The building, the room, and the public areas were all full of charm. The grounds were peaceful and welcoming. The breakfast was excellent. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We felt like we were staying at a friend's place!
Most amazing breakfast I've ever had - everything from scratch!
Staff were excellent, the breakfast was amazing. Location was great to walk to nearby shops and restaurants. The gardens and back porch were also wonderful. Liked the afternoon 5-6 snacks It may be that our expectations re b&bs are unrealistic. The room decor was very dated and unappealing. The bath was off the gathering room, tiny shower stall and sink.
