Points positifs: Service was excellent. Food was wonderful. Private onsen was clean and quiet.

Points positifs: Very Japanese breakfast for westerns. Outdoor spa rooms were beautiful, however tub itself could have been skimmed for bugs before we enter.
10,0 Excellent
Points positifs: The staff were extremely welcoming and attentive during my stay, and the mini onsen in my room was so relaxing.
10,0 Excellent
Points positifs: Unbelievable experience from start to finish. The kaiseki service was exceptional - a meal of the highest quality. Staff were friendly, attentive but not overbearing. The room was fantastic and authentic. The games room and private onsen were the icing on the cake. A perfect romantic getaway.
Points négatifs: Nothing of note - wonderful stay.
9,5 Excellent
Points positifs: Everything is great! You are in the middle of the nature and feel the vibe since minute one. The staff is very friendly and the facilities outstanding. Both the public onsen and the private ones are great. We had one in our room which was a great plus. The dinner was excellent as well!!!
9,3 Excellent
Points positifs: Amazing ryokan surrounded by nature in Hakone. It is isolated from town, but I found it was better that way, in order to relax and enjoy the comfort of the hotel. Plus the bus from the Odawara station stops right next to it, just 3mn walking. It is an expensive place, but worth it. Attentive staff, very comfortable, fantastic dinner and breakfast, perfect room with private outdoor onsen. The public indoor and outdoor onsen are very nice too. Since there is an option of renting privately for 45mn the outdoor onsen (that was probably the highlight of the stay), probably next time I would go for a cheaper room with indoor onsen.
Points négatifs: It is a bit too expensive

Points positifs: The room was beautiful and the peach aperitif before dinner was divine. Other then that read below. Wasn’t the experience I was expecting.
Points négatifs: The food was extremely disappointing... bland and not fresh. They served cold tempura and over cooked fish. I was traveling with my father in-law who is a Japanese gentleman and he was very surprised by the lack of service and odd food choices. I’ve traveled a lot in japan and this was not Ryokan service! We had to go to the restaurant to eat instead of having our keiseki meal served in our room. $1200.- for severely mediocre food and service. We made a reservation for the private Onsen and were rudely and repeatedly told “only 45 min!” For 1200 dollars I expect to not be told by rude staff that there is a limit. On top of the rude staff and mediocre food we had to trudge to the front desk to pick up a key for everything. How about brining the key to our room... since we made a reservation! All in all... don’t waste your time or money. And if you do go, bring your own food as you will go hungry here if you don’t.
9,3 Excellent
Points positifs: Very friendly staff, open bar, great food, generous portions and inexpensive wine
Points négatifs: View was not very interesting.
9,5 Excellent
Points positifs: The generous sized rooms, comfortable clean bedding and the delicious dinner and breakfast

Points positifs: Everything was great, staff was very fun and helpful. Facilities were amazing, onsen was very nice.
Points négatifs: The only thing I could say, more time in the onsen during the day would be nice.. maybe earlier morning hours for those folks who don't sleep in very well :).
8,3 Excellent

9,3 Excellent
Points positifs: The staff were great and the views from the communal space are absolutely breathtaking. The staff are knowledgeable and the kitchen facilities are super good. Everywhere is spotlessly clean.
Points négatifs: The room smelt like old feet and there is a restriction on the showers and Onsen. You can't use the showers between 11.00am - 3.00pm so if you fancy a lazy morning you're screwed - I had to sneak into the closed Onsen past the staff just to have a wash.
10,0 Excellent
Points positifs: The staff were incredible friendly and helpful. The hostel is so beautifully clean and far exceeded our expectations. The bed was really comfy and the onsens onsite were really picturesque and fun. 100% happy and 100% would recommend. Having morning coffee on the little balcony in the midst of the mountains was a perfect moment.

Points positifs: The staff! Loved Yuriko!
Points négatifs: I loved but I’m Japanese American and very familiar with the culture. Foreigners didn’t seem as respectful of the conventions of a ryokan.
10,0 Excellent
Points positifs: If you aren't sure whether or not to stay at a ryokan - DO IT! You won't regret it. This was one of the best experiences I had while travelling in Japan. Fukuzumiro was easy to find (quick bus from the train station) and I was warmly greeted by the staff. The inn is old but well kept and gives you a true traditional experience. The onsen was relaxing and peaceful, I went once before dinner and once in the morning the next day. For dinner, the staff prepared me an amazing vegetarian multi-course meal. Probably the best meal I've had in my life. The woman assisting me was so helpful and kind, and even though I can't speak Japanese, she spoke enough English to help explain things to me. She even walked me to the bus stop the next morning and made sure I took the right one. I highly recommend staying at Fukuzumiro in Hakone!
Points négatifs: NA
7,5 Bien
8,3 Excellent
Points positifs: Traditionnel ryokan, friendly and helpful staff even though limited English.
Points négatifs: In the village restaurants close early, most around 6pm. You can eat at the ryokan, but this is very expensive.
9,3 Excellent
Points positifs: The service was outstanding, and the location along a roaring river was perfect. The building was wonderful old-style, but the two rock ofuro were a bit on the rough side, though the one wooden one was great. I went for the Japanese breakfast, and I thought it was excellent. It was a pleasant, 15-minute walk to shops, restaurants, and the train station. All in all, this was a great place!
Points négatifs: Maybe the two rock ofuro could be updated, or better yet, changed to wood, but I wasn't disappointed.
8,3 Excellent
Points positifs: Ryokan experience
Points négatifs: Property older and not kept up well. It reminded me of summer camp
8,3 Excellent
9,5 Excellent
Points positifs: The staff is super nice, food is excellent, and you get a beautiful river view from your room.
9,3 Excellent

Points positifs: The manager, Kana, is very friendly. She provided us great hospitality. Clean toilet and bathroom. Close to Miyanoshita Station.
Points négatifs: A bit disappointed with the double room as it does not have air-corn with only a tiny fan.
10,0 Excellent
Points positifs: Great staff!! Very kind and helpful. Allowed me to check in three hours before time since she was there when I arrived, and then proceeded to help me get a Hakone Free Pass and drove me to Lake Ashi in her car. Also great facilities and great location.
8,3 Excellent
Points positifs: The staff was extremely helpful with everything! The building was old and very beautiful. The room was okay to stay in for a couple of nights and there is a big common area in which you can eat, drink and relax.
Points négatifs: The room had no a/c, but that was only temporarily.
9,3 Excellent
Points positifs: The owner was very helpful with everything. He recommended us an onsen, some things to visit etc. Very clean and cosy. Very comfortable. There are lots of buses to visit the main things around the area.
Points négatifs: You have to take the bus to visit the main attractions.
8,3 Excellent
Points positifs: The cleaness and owner are friendly
9,5 Excellent

Points positifs: Location is nice. Amazing facilities and incredible onsens. Lovely staff and really great food. But the best part are the kimonos set they offer to the guest to walk around the hotel.
Points négatifs: Nothing to deslike there
10,0 Excellent
Points positifs: Have lived in different higher class ryokans around Hakone-sumitomo and Gora areas. Gora Kadan is the best experience I have ever had. The ryokan is built largely of wooden. The long corridor at lobby floor with wooden foldable doors on both side look fantastic. All the wooden structure and furnitures are well maintained. The rooms were clean and spacious. I booked 2 rooms, one with private hot spring. The outdoor hotspring is built like a garden. Looks really nice. The staff is very nice and helpful. This time, I travelled with my kids and also my mother. The hotel arranged a private dining room with higher chairs for us so that my mom could sit comfortably for the meals. Also, as my mom has to walk very slowly, we were late for some scheduled activities like dinner and breakfast. The staff was patient and waited for us politely. On the day we check out, it was a rainy date, they use two Benz luxury saloons to drive us to the train Station. The food is of very good quality. We have both sukiyaki and Shabu Shabu for the dinner. The kids are served with kids menu. While the starter and main course are delicious, the desert is also awesome - a hollow orange filled with orange jelly, an artwork in addition to its good taste. The facilities are good. My kids enjoyed the warm swimming pool very much (they really like to swim). Towels are ready for use at swimming pool side. My wife and I enjoyed the Kadan Spa, a relaxing experience. All in all, a very memorable experience for my family.
Points négatifs: Suggest the swimming pool can open for kids at earlier time.
9,3 Excellent
Points positifs: Beautiful experience nice food and people
Points négatifs: Expensive and time of check in and check out is very streight 15 true 11
6,8 Bien
Approche trop commerciale.
9,3 Excellent
Points positifs: Place was beyond amazing from the architecture to the food and just the whole experience actually!!! You really felt like you were transported in time. Love the complimentary kimono outfits too. Staff was incredibly nice and offered impeccalbe service! The traditional food being serviced in the room was such a wonderful, unique dining experience. My kids were so happy here too! Most unique hotel experience ever!
Points négatifs: Toilet room had a slight smell but that could have been the sulfer smell from the hot springs maybe... Bed was also not very comfortable but I know that the low profile "futon" style is to make it look more traditional Japanese style but I would suggest they use a cool/breathable memory foam mattress type instead.
9,5 Excellent
Points positifs: Private dinning in room - Excellent variation of dinner dishes and service. The private bath is also an experience you shouldn't miss.
Points négatifs: maybe the resting rooms after the hot baths could be bit bigger
10,0 Excellent

Points négatifs: As a frequent traveler, I have stayed all fancy luxury hotels world wide , no hotels would charge me extra money for twenty minutes late check out , I just wasn’t aware of time and all I ask is 20 minutes more.... Not to mention my family ask for milk at the lobby, they were informed that milk is free only for 4th floor customers. they also being told 11:30 check out is for 4 th floor customers only. We understand that the fourth floor rooms are more expensive. But please don’t forget that we are also your customers. We also pay more than one thousand us dollars per night per room!!!!!!
9,3 Excellent
Points positifs: The hotel staff delivered one of the best hotel experiences we've ever had. They exceeded all expectations. They also pay attention to so many details and the little things that make you feel like royalty. For example, a member of the staff greeted us even before we walked up to the front entrance. There must be a camera as you cross the bridge to access the grounds. They must have seen us coming because there was someone waiting for us right there offering to take our bags. We were ushered into a waiting area looking out into their beautiful garden where we were offered welcome drinks and treats. Our room was beyond comprehension. Everything we needed was in there. Shaving kit, robes, a smartphone that offer d FREE international calling, Bluetooth speaker, amazing toiletries, an onsen/hot tub on our balcony, traditional Japanese wardrobe for dinner & breakfast and SO much more.
Points négatifs: Although an amazing experience, I'm not convinced it's worth $1k/night. No early check-in which means a max of 20 hours for each night of stay. The location, although beautiful, isn't easy to get to.
10,0 Excellent
Points positifs: Outstanding service. Excellent food an private onsen a real treat
Points négatifs: Nothing
9,5 Excellent
Points positifs: The hotel is quite pricy, but for a reason. Super authentic Japanese style and perfect service. The open-air in-room hot spring tub gives you a perfect view and tranquility of bamboos and trees. Bed is HUGE. You can wear the kimono PJ while in the hotel, pretty immersive experience. The public hot spring cannot be reserved for single group use, but it is open for quite long hours, and you can easily find private time to enjoy. Kaiseki breakfast is spectacular and very fulfilling. You won't regret if you need to save money just for that one night.
8,8 Excellent
Points positifs: The private onsen, the bed and the dinner were amazing
Points négatifs: The checking process was not super well structured and the staff was not smooth
10,0 Excellent
Points positifs: Loved the privacy and the relaxation aspects. The staff were so respectful and actually anticipated my needs before I articulated them. The room was enormous, well stocked and so comfortable.
Points négatifs: The only thing I can think of, and it is minor, is that some staff had poor English and could not understand what we were asking. But this didn’t detract from the stay and they went above and beyond to ensure we had what we needed in the end.
9,5 Excellent
Points positifs: Food, location, service, shuttle directly to the hotel from Hakone-Yumoto station.
Points négatifs: Price might be a little high, but superb food, service and room.

Points positifs: I liked the outdoors area, very pretty. Room with personal hot spring was nice. The toiletries were nice, each person got a little bag of toiletries.
Points négatifs: Definitely not worth the money. The hot springs area was ok. No extra touches. They had 3 beat up massage chairs outside and an area you could get massage but they were tables in open area blocked by a sheet. No gym. No use of hot springs if you have tattoos (Japanese culture, not really hotel’s fault). Food was ok.

Points positifs: SPA and Onsen facilities as well as breakfast
Points négatifs: Not a great option for a family with children. We had the deluxe room with tatami area and the sleeping option for the kids with a rather thin mattress on the floor was not great. The price is really high to sleep on the floor. The room price is above 600 euro and not worth the room. The onsen in the room and SPA was good though. The breakfast was also good. Almost everything was in Japanese and the staff spoke little english but definitely tried.

Points positifs: We enjoyed the spa in the hotel and the prices are reasonable.
Points négatifs: If they can add more options to the western breakfast

Points positifs: The staff were very nice and were eventually accommodating when we told them that we need to shorten our stay.
Points négatifs: We stayed in one of the suites with private onsen. The room was nowhere near the quality you would expect from a 4 star hotel, more like a 2/low 3 star in Europe or the US and definitely not what you would expect for £330 a night, even in Japan. Very old and tired furniture, mould in the shower, no mosquito screens between the onsen, shower and the bathroom. We could not get a good night's sleep because the ceiling fans that are meant to be kept on all night were rattly and noisy, and mosquitoes were flying about. The private onsen was in a tiny room with a window overlooking an ugly building opposite (we were on the 2nd floor). Japanese breakfast was almost inedible. Yes we are European and maybe our palates are not completely aligned to Japanese flavours, but we love Japanese cuisine and we've enjoyed most other meals we've had in Japan. We had to cut our stay short and move to the nearby Hyatt, which is much better value for money and a much nicer hotel in every way.

Points positifs: The hotel was well located on the lake. There were some really nice views. It was a newer property and the Western style room we were in was quite comfortable.
Points négatifs: It's not a traditional Ryokan so it was disappointing to find out the dinner was served buffet style and personally I found it to be mediocre as did my family. We were hoping for a coursed dinner like a traditional Ryokan. This felt more mass market and was hectic. The private Onsen in our room was quite small. The room itself was very comfortable but for the nightly rate it wasn't worth it.

Points positifs: Everything! In fact this July was our second time to stay at Mount View, and we plan to come back and stay here for the autumn season. The location is unbeatable -- close to many attractions and there's a bus stop right across the hotel. The staff is helpful. The food -- it was like having a individual buffet set for each guest. Loved the little Japanese sweet treats they serve on a pretty dish every day. The futon beds, yukatas, dinner jackets, toe socks and small towels --- everything is always perfect!

Points positifs: Everyone was very helpful and pleasant. The location was amazing - very close to the train station, could walk to the Hotel - just a couple of blocks. Central to the Town Centre and within walking distance to walking trails in beautiful surroundings.
Points négatifs: The property is an older property which we expected from other reviews, but very clean and great value for the money spent.

Points positifs: Good location. We had the Japanese style breakfast and dinner included which we enjoyed. The public baths were nice with both an indoor bath and an open air to the outside public baths. There was parking on site which was convenient.
Points négatifs: Dinner serving time period is fixed and there was no booking.com option to book the first night without dinner which we could not take advantage of since we would arrive after dinner time. The bathroom and the in room bathtub and shower are rather small.
10,0 Excellent

Points positifs: A ryokan experience I expect. A view from my room balcony and private outdoor onsen was fantastic. Hotel location is very good 1 min. walk from hakone-umoto station and close to river.
Points négatifs: I reserve room with outdoor onsen tub on balcony and it more expensive than normal room but it just on second floor. When I use the onsen tub at early evening, I hear voice from people how walk pass my room on river side and feel not private. Another thing, my room was next to a breakfast room. In early morning, it's very noisy from staff how setup room and prepare a breakfast.

Points positifs: We liked the view and the friendly staff, particularly the trainee staff member from Guam. The free shuttle was great and much appreciated.
Points négatifs: I felt the lounge area looked very tired and I was cold on one occasion. One evening we ordered club sandwiches. The toast was cold which made the sandwich unappealing. We treated ourselves to dinner in the restaurant. The hot side dishes were delivered well before our main course and were cold by the time our steak or chicken arrived. For the price, I would expect much better timing. The other issue was that there were very few places to eat nearby. Overall, we felt that the price for the room and food was too high.
9,3 Excellent
Points positifs: Really nice hotel, rooms are really large and comfortable. we are a family of 5 and we took 2 rooms, but they are large enough to squeeze 4 people in. Service is amazing, there is always someone to welcome you in, everyone speaks English . I also liked the shuttle service. Hakone is a region and not a city , as such you need to move around in order to see the attractions, the shuttle service to take us to the nearest station or outdoor museum was very useful. the hotel has a great western and Japanese restaurants. we only ate the western restaurant. Prices are similar to what you will pay in Australia or on your Fijian holiday ($150 a family for dinner) but the standard and service are really high. Open bar everyday from 4-7pm is really nice to have. we are not big drinkers , but its a nice have. The hot spa in the hotel was great, personally I find it unusual to bath naked , which is the Japanese tradition, but when I went to use it around 8pm, I was the only person in the spa.
Points négatifs: Loved everything. I would have loved to have a bath/spa on the balcony. The balcony is large enough to accomodate this.

Points positifs: Beautiful decor, wonderful staff! They had a daily free drink happy hour in the living room. They offered shuttles to both go and be picked up from public transportation.
Points négatifs: I wish they had a better moderate dining option. We had lunch and dinner in the upscale western restaurant. Food was good but pricey. Glasses of wine started at over $20. You could get casual food in the living room, but the menu was very limited and food was just ok.

Points positifs: Staff was extremely helpful. Several spoke English very well. Onsens were very relaxing. Proximity to the Hakone ropeway is amazing, two stops up the nearby cable car.
Points négatifs: Our kaiseki meal was delicious, however, the seating and experience was less than traditional Japanese. It was served in a communal dining area (less common but ok) while seated in chairs at tables (was not expecting this). Private onsen time is a little on the pricey side at about $33-34 for 45 minutes. Public onsens were terrific but they were indoors. Hakone ropeway was closed due to volcanic activity. Obviously, out of anyone’s control. Only real option was catching a bus to the lake.
9,3 Excellent
Points positifs: Shuttle bus available for arrival (as long as it's after check in 15:00) or when leaving - the driver is a fun guy. Front Desk staff are nice. Breakfast was good (2nd breakfast main of traditional grilled whole fish is fiddly for those of us not raised to eat fish this way, 1st day of a grilled fillet is more foreigner friendly), 1st morning we were able to have juice, drinking yoghurt or tea. 2nd morning I think we just had tea. Kaiseki dinner was quite salty the 1st night, but 2nd night was better balanced. I was amused to be served (assumedly) sake for the nabe dinner. Was not expecting it at all :) I am a big eater, but I didn't need to say yes to the pickles & rice that are offered at the end. The food staff are already there waiting for you to seat you when you go to the dining area (room dining isn't done here, but the tables are partioned). 2 massage chairs! Free use foot bath! We stayed in the "Luxury Room with Tatami Area + Open-Air Bath". WORTH THE COST! Welcome gift of a loofah & mini toiletries each, IN ADDITION to the usual coffee & tea amenities, AS WELL as the prawn cracker! Yes, a ryokan of this level if expensive but you totally get value for money. Since we had dinner included, we got a free 45min session in one of the private baths downstairs. Considering my upbringing this was well appreciated, I was still not game to try the public baths. Our inroom (on the balcony) bath was just as awesome if not more since you can control the temperature. The private bath that you book with Front Desk is a great experience but man it was so hot! We visited during a coolish rainy time, so I can't imagine enjoying it quite as much in summer or spring! The yukatas are awesome and you can choose from the wall in the lobby. Vending machines scattered in the ryokan. Haagen Dazs bar was cheaper here than the konbini. Were I rich I would stay again! I wouldn't sight see though - use the facilities!
Points négatifs: Location sucks if you want to walk - reviews weren't kidding when they said it's a BIG trek up a otherwise relatively short hill. It is so steep.
6,8 Bien
Points positifs: Excellent location and nice traditional onsen
Points négatifs: When asked for a gluten-free meal for 1 of our group, the advise was to send this guest to the convenience store to buy her own food. Second advise was for all of us to dine elsewhere. Finally the problem was fixed because I refused their suggestions. But the initial responses were very unprofessional and insulting. Japanese are renowned for service and hospitality but not when we stayed at Yutorelo-an.
9,5 Excellent
Points positifs: The magical onsen experience provided. If buying the packaging with dinner & breakfast, provide 1 free 45 minutes private onsen experience per room. The food is very nice and in large portion. However the vegetarian dinner wasn’t as great as non-vegetarian. They tried to infuse Japanese influence with western style but failed miserably. The vegetarian breakfast which is completely western style was delicious. One of the lady at reception spoke excellent English and provided great help.
Points négatifs: It is 3 minutes walk to nearest Naka-Gōra Station on cable car and an almost impossible walk to gora station with luggages and hills. It is more expensive to see the other sights having to buy cable car tickets every time. The public onsen is indoors and feels like Japanese style bath than onsen as despite certificates showing water is from mountains, it didn’t smell sulphur or feel any different. The private onsen is semi-outdoors but in an enclosure offering just view of a few bamboos.

9,5 Excellent
Points positifs: Really lovely location and aesthetic building. The room was very comfortable and the onsen was really nice. The breakfast was very tasty. The staff were friendly and there were good facilities including during the day, free cold drinks and light snacks and coffee.
Points négatifs: I am vegetarian and I was a little disappointed that they couldn’t at least make my breakfast without any meat or fish. I didn’t want any alternatives, but they said it wasn’t possible to remove any meat or fish. However at breakfast, there were some dishes that could have easily been done without meat or fish so a little disappointed, what I could eat was lovely though!

Points positifs: It was in a good location. The staff were really nice. The rooms are big.
Points négatifs: The hotel has almost a re purposed apartment feel. The rooms are dated but it didn't have an impact on my stay.

Points positifs: Good position at the J Bus line, bus stop Verde no Mori (goes directly from Odawara to the hotel. With the same bus line it's possible to reach the ropeway or the cablecar station). With the J Bus it's even possible to go directly to Owakudani, from where you can see Mount Fuji. Shuttle to Gora station from the hotel for free if needed. Restaurants at Yunessun and the nearby (10 minutes by foot). Big room for Japan, with a balcony. And in our room wifi was even possible from the room (officially only in the lobby).
Points négatifs: Dinner at the hotel very expensive and has to be booked one day in advance.

Points négatifs: Old carpet. Old furniture. Old mattresses. Twin rooms only - no double bed rooms. Old bathroom equipment. We stayed in the west wing - they said the east wing is the same. Restaurant was active for breakfast only. A real problem to get dinner in this region. No shops or restaurants around.
