Points négatifs : Wring car, didnt care, no discount, then the crappy wrong car had NO GAS in the tank. Took it back next day ans went with Avis. Now i am still being billed for Hertz.
Points négatifs : I was told there was no car available for me and that I could wait to see if they had anything the next day. Then they were shocked i wanted to cancel the reservation. I had planned a cross country trip and needed to leave early in the morning the next day. So I was left scrambling to find another car from another business. Luckily the Budget counter had something for me and they were able to help me out. Now I know to go to Budget instead of Hertz in the future.
Points positifs : Very quick and easy drop off in Hilton Head. Loved the car!
I learned NEVER TO PREPAY for a car
Points positifs : Diane from the airport Savannah/Hilton Head was awesome! She helped me figure out an option when I realized that I reserved the rental car through the wrong airport. She helped me remain calm and found us a minivan that would accommodate my large family & our luggage.
Points négatifs : Unfortunately, I learned that if you accidentally order a car and pay in advance..and accidentally book the wrong airport (there are 2 Hilton head labeled airports), you cannot transfer any of the prepaid car to the new location. I paid in full for 5 days and Hertz said it's a locked in deal so they wouldn't honor even a discount. So, I had to pay for 2 vehicles on my trip. Completely, not cool.

Points négatifs : I was unable to get car because the rep said none were available. He said because I had a debit card he couldn't rent me one even if he had one because they don't except debit as payment without a deposit. When I said I was ok with the deposit he said it didn't matter because the payment couldn't be made using a debit card. When I showed him hertz had already charged my account for the rental he told me to take it up with kayak. I left without a car and called hertz twice explaining the situation and both times I was told I'd receive a refund. The first time I received a credit which was then again debited from my account 2 days later. The second time has resulted in nothing. I get the debit card policy but this was handled poorly from the start and I'm out $65 with no reasonable explanation or response.
Buy your car insurance online beforehand
Points positifs : Great car, easy check in/check out, good price.
Points négatifs : The car insurance was sooooooo expensive, more than the rental car itself. Usually I purchase the insurance before I pick up the rental, but this time I forgot and boy did I pay. Also, I was 45 minutes late with my return so I got charged for another day of insurance. They got me good.

Points négatifs : it was unclear if my hertz gold account was applied we weren't able to look at the car together to inspect it, i just had to take pictures

Points négatifs : However, I was given a car with "branches that needed to be removed from the undercarriage." Yet the staff said it was the only car they had available for me. It had only 3/4 a tank of gas even though the paperwork said it was full. It still had trash in it from the last people. It was clear that it hadn't been properly inspected. About an hour later, the car gets a flat tire. I'm forced to pay for a new tire because as they put it "I couldn't prove there was a pre-existing issue." Maybe not, but if the car had been properly inspected, this might have been prevented. Overall, disappointed with the poor customer service from the call center and the drop-off location in Miami, the lack of thoroughness in Hilton Head, and the attitude of "its not our problem unless you can prove it."
