Seats so narrow and rows are so close, that you practically pooched into your neighbors, those that behind don't let you to recline your seat as then your seat is in their face. It looks like American Airlines hopes to exchange your reality with virtuality, but our bodies that we are for some reason taking with us on that itinerary - suffer."

We kept trying and the only way we could pick a seat months and weeks ahead was if we bought an upgrade. We had already spent over $1000 to fly to Paris each and did not want to buy an upgrade. We just wanted the assignment of a seat. When we got closer to the date we were told that we would get a seat assignment at check in. At check in we were told we would get a seat assignment at the airport. At the airport we were told we would get a seat assignment at the GATE! At the GATE the attendant had difficulty finding our seats and finally found them with the help of another attendant. This adding extreme stress to a trip that was planned in September and should have been a pleasureable experience. Our seats were not together and we then had to go on the plane and ask other travelers to change their seats in order to be near each other. This was not our job! We ended up near each other but not together. Then when we arrived in Paris we noticed that our suitcases had been tagged STAND BY!!!!!! We were glad that we did not see that at the Philadelphia airport because it would have added even more stress to a long anticipated pleasure trip to Paris. Next time we will make sure that the tickets we are purchasing (FINNAIR) have nothing to do with American Airlines."

The Airplaine was extremely old and looked like it was not refurbished at all since the 90's. Unlike basically every other airline (including airlines from the developing world) the plane did not have a personal entertainment system which is rather vexing considering the flight is so long. The decoration of the plane looked old and worn. The crew were more interested in getting the job done quickly than properly."

Points négatifs : "Our flight from Chicago to Paris was managed by Finnair, but flown through American Airlines. This was the second disappointing flight on American Airlines. Our first flight was repeatedly delayed over three hours and then canceled. Everyone had to take a new flight the next day on the same plane which was scheduled to be fixed that morning prior to departure. We boarded the plane 45 minutes late and then were informed that the part needed to fix the plan had just cleared customs. After another hour of waiting on the plane, we taxied to the runway and the returned to the gate because another part needed to be fixed on the plane. We waited another hour and a half on the plane before finally taking off. Upon our arrival at Chicago O'Hare, we waited on the tarmac for 30 minutes before the ground crew parked our plane. Which brings me to this flight from Chicago O'Hare to Charles de Gaulle in Paris. Our flight was delayed for maintenance repeatedly for 2 hours and then a new plane had to be brought over. By the time we boarded we were almost four hours behind schedule due to a logbook problem once we boarded the new plane. The plane itself was small - the size of a domestic flight - and VERY cramped. On both of the flights we had no TVs in the headrest. This is something that I have always had in economy class on international flights. It was by far the most uncomfortable flight I have ever been on. Because of the delay, we had to reschedule one of our two connecting flights. I was assured that our bags would still arrive at our final destination. When we finally reached our final destination, we found out that our bags had been lost along the way - most likely because of the flight being rescheduled."

The plane was nearly 2 hours late departing from Chicago O'Hare with no explanation given. 1hr and 45 minutes is a long time to sit without going anywhere. Food was incredibly uninspiring and the staff was kind, but generally seemed distracted. I asked for a beverage at one point, but the flight attendant was too busy trying to get the passenger next to me who was passed out on sleeping pills to put the window shade down to give it to me. American Airlines is one of the only carriers left that has not upgraded to individual entertainment units for transatlantic flights and so the entertainment was like something straight out of Mad Men. Probably my worst flying experience to date."

Points négatifs : "1) While there is more room in the front, there is less room in the width because the trays are built into the armrests instead of in the seat in the front. Because of that, the armrests take more space below and remain static, while the normal armrests can be lifted up and have nothing below the armrest. 2) The text describing the "deal" for the exit row, which costs more, said that the seats have limited recline compared to normal seats. The fact is that the window seat did not recline at all. The button stayed pushed in all the way and the seat would not move at all. We do not know whether it was broken or intentionally disabled. 3) The attendant's approach was somewhat dismissive at first, but on the good side, she quickly rectified and came through with offers and a more understanding attitude, she was nice. 4) We brought this up to the flight attendants' attention, but the best they could do was to give us 1 free headset and any food we wanted. This was not much since we did not want the food. A refund for that extra payment for that seat would have been a better move. 5) The middle seat (it's a row of 3), has a metal box hanging from the front seat, taking a bit more than half the width of the space, so you can only put your feet under the right side of the front seat. 6) I don't think we'll do exit rows again on Icelandair. There was a lot of sitting on the tarmac and we were delayed getting to our final destination. This is also the first transatlantic flight I have taken with any Airline where there was not at least one complimentary meal on board. Apparently they are reserving that now only for economy Comfort class and up."

The only problem was, we weren't hungry, that wasn't what worried us... what worried us was that our Airfrance connecting flight to Florence, at the following airport (CDG Paris), departed about 15 minutes before our ( new) arrival time. We told this problem to icelandair staff at Reykjavik airport, there was no attempt by them to help alleviate our problem, they merely told us that we would have to talk to Airfrance about this problem as our Airfrance ticket wasn't booked on the same itinerary, and so it appeared that we were on our own. We passed the two hour layover relentlessly attempting to contact Airfrance to inform them of our status, hoping we could get re-booked on a later flight.... And so we arrived in Paris late, as expected, and learned that, not only did we miss our departing flight to Florence, without refund or a new flight booked, but we also forfeited our RETURN flight to Paris, not set to depart for THREE WEEKS. Stuck in Paris without a flight, now 16 hours after our journey began, extremely tired, angry, confused...we then had to book another round trip ticket from Paris, costing us an additional $900 USD! Although my anger and sense of injustice is largely aimed at Airfrance (because they still cancelled our return flight even though we contacted them numerous times to inform them of our dilemma), it would have been reasonable for icelandair to have worked with us and perhaps put us on a different flight, perhaps to Rome?, instead of dismissing us so thoughtlessly, because, after all, it was the icelandair flight that was delayed 3 hours and caused the problem in the first place. Right?"

Due to the fact yesterday was Easter Monday, the American consulate in London was closed. We have spent the night in a nearby motel and now, the next day, I am waiting alone back at the airport with our 2 large suitcases while my partner is at the American consulate. We are poor, do not have phone, currency or charger for England, and I do not do well with stress, so it is difficult. Now we cannot easily reach one another.
